Welcome to the Information Systems and Data Mining Group

The Information Systems and Data Mining group follows a holistic approach towards Big Data, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. Our research covers the entire Data Science Process from the raw data to new insights / knowledge including the steps of data integration, data preprocessing, machine learning, and data visualization.

In the field of of data analytics, we explore novel Machine Learning (ML) and Data Mining Methods (including shallow and deep learning models), in particluar:

  • Unsupervised learning for complex data, including high-dimensional / sparse data and unstructured data
  • Deep learning on time series and graphs
  • ML with time constraints (e.g. real-time ML algorithms for data streams, any-time ML algorithms, interactive ML algorithms)
  • ML with background knowledge and/or assertions such as privacy requirements, explainability, etc.

In the field of data management, we conduct research in managing scientific data for scalable data retrieval and analysis. This includes methods for data storage, data preprocessing, as well as for indexing and searching.
